AION 2 Templar Guide (Global): Judgment to 16, Stigmas, Macro and Aggro
Short answer: on AION 2 Global, a Templar build comes down to one rule. Put your skill points into Judgment until it reaches level 16, then raise your shield attacks, and do not spread points evenly. Skills gain an extra effect at levels 8, 12 and 16, so a skill sitting at 11 is wasting most of what you put into it. Until Judgment hits 16 your damage will feel weak. That is normal, and it is not a reason to reroll.
The build, stigma and tanking advice below comes from Global (Steam and PURPLE) players. Korea and Taiwan run a different version of the class, and the differences are marked. NC has not published skill numbers, so treat the in-game tooltips and official patch notes as final.
What the Templar does on Global
The Templar is the sword-and-shield melee tank, one of the eight classes Global launched with on October 5, 2026. The October 13 (PDT) patch notes confirm that the Halloween longsword appearance is Templar-only, separate from the Gladiator’s greatsword.
Our AION 2 class tier list for Global collects how the guide sites rate it:
| Category | Templar rating |
|---|---|
| Beginner pick (Daeva Guides) | 3rd, after Gladiator and Cleric |
| PvE (Shugo.gg) | S |
| PvP (Shugo.gg, based on Korea/Taiwan data) | B |
| Solo farming (Shugo.gg / aion2tierlist.com) | B / B |
In practice: dungeon groups always need you, and solo leveling is slow. NC’s pre-launch maintenance notice says dungeons are tuned for five-player groups, and a group usually wants only one Templar.
Templar skill build: Judgment to 16 first
Judgment is the skill Global Templars talk about most. Several players describe it as the center of the damage rotation: unremarkable before level 16, the core of the class after it. Others point out that it is hard to get Judgment to 16 before your gear score reaches roughly 1600, so expect a slow first stretch.
Because skills unlock extra effects (players call them pips) at 8, 12 and 16, concentrate your points:
- Judgment to level 16 first.
- Then your shield attacks. One opener players share: Shield Bash to pull, then Judgment, then Shield Slam and Warding Strike while Judgment is on cooldown.
- Everything else stays at a usable level until Judgment and the shield skills reach their breakpoints. After that, add survival skills based on the dungeons you run.
Why Korean and Taiwanese Templar builds look different
On the Bahamut AION 2 board, Taiwanese players discuss a Korea/Taiwan rework that lowered Judgment’s damage, buffed other skills and tied the extra effects to shield attacks. Their builds lean harder on shield skills and do not max Judgment first. Global still plays around Judgment. Whether the rework comes to Global is up to NC’s patch notes.
As of October 17, 2026, the only class change on Global is the October 13 (PDT) patch that fixed Spiritmaster and Sorcerer skill bugs. Nothing changed for the Templar, so launch-week builds still apply.
Templar stigmas: what to slot
Global players report 4 stigma slots per character for now, with stigma levels capped at 20 (Korea and Taiwan go to 25). Check in-game for your own numbers. How to earn stigma shards and what resets cost are in our AION 2 stigma and skills guide.
Most Templars keep two sets and swap between them with the in-game skill presets:
| Content | What to prioritize |
|---|---|
| Dungeon tanking | Survival, threat and group buffs; keep one slot for damage |
| Solo farming and leveling | Area damage and self-healing to clear packs faster |
| PvP and the Abyss | Block and crowd-control resistance |
One tip that comes up often: when the healer falls behind, Warding Shield saves runs, especially early on while your stigmas are still low level.
Templar macro and holding aggro
Many tanks coming from other MMOs say they could not hold aggro in their first week. More experienced Templars suggest:
- Put your main damage rotation in the built-in macro. Some players bind it to the right mouse button and hold it, which keeps skills going and threat steady. Keep taunts and defensive cooldowns on their own keys so you can time them.
- Taunt on the pull and on cooldown. You do not need to save it for a perfect moment the way some older MMOs teach.
- Max your passive threat and stay on the boss. Use your charge and pull skills to stay in melee range.
- A boss switching targets is not always lost aggro. Some mechanics force a target on another player and return to you afterward.
- Facing matters more than threat. Turn the boss away from ranged players and most of the group so melee can hit its back.
Another common Global problem: impatient players start the boss before the tank is inside and the door closes. Players report getting no loot if they are locked out when the boss dies. A quick “wait for tank” before the pull saves a lot of trouble.
For what to put in a macro versus a third-party helper, see our AION 2 auto combat guide: macros vs. bots.
Block gear (a Taiwan player’s numbers)
A Taiwanese Templar on Bahamut shared a “natural block” setup: about 3,326 block in town without buffs, and about 4,000 in a dungeon with food and a defensive stance active. The idea is to keep your core damage stats and fill the remaining slots with agility or block. By that player’s math, on the Taiwan version 1 agility is worth about +0.1% block, so agility pays off more the higher your base block is. With low base block, stacking block directly is better.
That is one player’s calculation on a different version. Check your own stat window on Global.
Templar PvP notes
There is little reliable PvP data from Global yet, and Shugo.gg’s B rating for Templar PvP is based on Korea and Taiwan. Players who do take a Templar into the Abyss build block and crowd-control resistance first and play as the front line that protects ranged allies. If you mainly want PvP kills, the Gladiator is the stronger pick; our AION 2 Gladiator build covers it.
Who to group with
- Templar + Gladiator: players report that the two classes’ “party damage on block or parry” effects do not stack, but the Gladiator also brings life-steal group buffs and armor break. It is a common late-dungeon pair in Korea and Taiwan.
- Templar + Assassin: Taiwanese players call the Assassin the Templar’s best partner. You hold the boss’s facing, and the Assassin hits its back the whole fight.
- Templar + Cleric or Chanter: the safest setup for learning a dungeon. Once the group knows the fights, swapping the healer for damage speeds things up. Our Cleric guide covers the healer side, and the dungeon guide covers entries and weekly limits.
AION 2 Templar FAQ
What is the best AION 2 Templar build? Put skill points into Judgment until level 16, then raise your shield attacks: Shield Bash, Shield Slam and Warding Strike. Skills unlock extra effects at 8, 12 and 16, so focused points beat even spreading. This reflects Global players’ experience; the Korea/Taiwan rework leans more on shield skills. Skill names follow the English client.
Why is my Templar’s damage so low? Usually because Judgment is still below 16. Players say it is hard to get there before about 1600 gear score, and low damage until then is expected. Raise your gear score, lean on Warding Shield for survival, and do not reroll over early damage.
Is the Templar good for beginners? Yes, if you want to play in groups. It is hard to kill, always welcome in dungeons, and ranks 3rd for beginners on Daeva Guides. The cost is slow solo leveling, and in dungeons you pull and set the boss’s facing. If you mostly want to level alone, the Gladiator is easier.
Templar or Gladiator for tanking? For main-tanking dungeons, pick the Templar: its threat, group shield and damage sharing are more complete. The Gladiator is stronger solo and in PvP, and it can off-tank or deal damage in a group.
How do I hold aggro as a Templar? Put your damage rotation in the built-in macro, taunt on the pull and on cooldown, max passive threat and stay in melee range. If the boss targets someone else, check whether it is a forced mechanic before you panic; many return to you after.
Where Aion2 Bot fits
The Templar’s weak spot is solo play: leveling, farming materials and Kinah. Aion2 Bot (Aion.Onl) added Templar and Cleric skill rotations on October 9, which completed support for every class; the details are in Auto Dungeon Beta and Skill Rotations for Every Class. Auto Combat casts skills by class and recognizes stigma skills stacked on your hotbar. Active Pull suits area-damage classes and is not recommended for melee, so most Templars leave it off and set a short route with patrol points instead. Set the in-game action mode to “Aion1” first, or auto-attack may not work. The helper runs in fullscreen too; set your resolution before installing, as the setup guide explains.
Keep the risk in mind: NC restricts accounts for bots and unauthorized programs, and no third-party tool can promise you will not be banned. Aion.Onl uses advanced anti-detection techniques to protect accounts as far as possible. New users can register at user.aion.onl for a free 3-hour trial card, support is on Telegram, and the client is on the download page.
Sources: Patch Notes, Oct. 13 PDT / Oct. 14 CEST (Templar longsword appearance, scope of class changes) and the Oct. 4/5 maintenance notice (five-player dungeon tuning), both official on Steam. Build, stigma, aggro and group advice comes from r/Aion2 player discussions in September and October 2026; the Korea/Taiwan rework and block numbers come from Taiwanese players on the Bahamut AION 2 board. All of these are player reports.
