AION 2 Pet Farming Guide: Pet Levels, Genus Insight and Soul Crystals

AION 2 pets are not a gacha. You collect them by killing field monsters and picking up their souls. Each pet you register and level feeds Genus Insight, the stat board for that pet’s genus, and Soul Crystals pay for the random stats on that board. The fastest way through it: register as many new pets as you can first, keep all your farming inside one genus per map, and save crystals until the board is high enough to roll good stats.

This guide is for the Global version (Steam and PURPLE). NCSOFT has not published the exact soul counts, so the numbers below come from guide sites and r/AION2 players. Check the in-game Pets tab and official notices for the final numbers.

How the pet system works

  1. Register a pet: kill the same monster until you have enough of its souls, and the pet is added to your collection. Souls drop by chance, and some quests give them too.
  2. Pet level: keep collecting that pet’s souls to level it. On Global the cap is level 3 (Korea and Taiwan launched with level 5, which is why Korean “1,000 kills per pet” numbers do not apply here). Each level adds a passive stat that works even when the pet is not summoned.
  3. Genus Insight: pets belong to five genera, including Cogni, Fera and Special. Registering and leveling pets gives XP to that genus’s Insight board, which goes up to level 10.
  4. Analysis: on the Genus Insight board you spend Soul Crystals and Kina to roll random stats into the slots. You can lock the stats you like and reroll the rest.

Guide sites list these soul counts for Global. Some sites count the levels differently, so trust the “remaining” number in the Pets tab:

Step Souls for that pet Total
Register (level 1) 5 5
Level 2 +25 30
Level 3 (max) +75 105

Genus Insight: go wide before you go deep

This is where most players waste time. Guide sites and r/AION2 math threads agree on the XP:

  • Register a new pet (5 souls): +500 Genus Insight XP
  • Each pet level after that: +250 XP

So one new pet registration is worth twice a pet level-up, for a fraction of the souls. A player in a “Genus Insight math” thread worked out that leveling everything in one genus still left them short of level 10, and another asked why pet levels only give 250 XP. Both point to the same answer: new registrations carry the board early on, and pet levels are mostly for their own passive stats.

The XP needed per Insight level climbs fast. One guide table for Cogni lists 500 XP for level 1→2, then 1,500, 3,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 40,000, 70,000 and 100,000. Pick one or two genera you actually want and push those first.

Two community points worth knowing:

  • Players report that Genus Insight and crystals are shared across characters on the same server, so pets your alt registers help your main. Confirm this in game before you plan around it.
  • Players say maxing all five boards to level 10 gives a title with extra PvE damage, attack and crit. That is a long-term goal, not something to rush.

Soul Crystals: where they come from

  • Souls from a maxed pet: once a pet is level 3, its souls turn into a crystal of that genus instead (for example a Fera Soul Crystal). That is also the quickest way to tell if a pet is maxed: if you loot a crystal instead of the named soul, you are done with it.
  • Rainbow Soul Crystals: work on any genus. Players get them from Hidden Cubes, duty quests and achievements. Save them for the genus whose monsters are hard to find.
  • Events: see the Halloween section below.

When to roll and lock stats

  • Higher Insight levels unlock more slots and better stat grades. Rolling at low levels mostly burns crystals on stats you will replace.
  • The usual advice on r/AION2: do not lock stats before Insight level 10 unless you are close to it at level 9. Locks make every reroll more expensive.
  • Analysis also costs Kina, and it adds up. One player had 35,000 unused rainbow crystals, spammed analysis to chase the title, and burned 5 million Kina without getting there. Set a Kina budget before a rolling session. One guide lists 4 crystals plus 1,000 Kina per roll on one board, but the cost changes with locks and patches, so read the analysis window.

A faster pet farming order

  1. Choose your genus first. Cogni (HP and crit) is a common first pick; Fera has movement stats like mount speed.
  2. Open the Pets tab and look up spawn areas. Pick a field where you can farm two or three unregistered pets of the same genus at once.
  3. Register new pets before maxing old ones. 5 souls for +500 XP beats 75 souls for +250 XP.
  4. Farm along your dailies. Quests and Abyss supply missions in the same map save you a trip.
  5. Avoid crowded spots. Popular pet spots are full of players and bots, and you spend more time waiting for respawns than killing. A quieter spot of the same genus is often faster.
  6. Keep crystals until Insight is high. Then roll once, with a Kina budget.

Halloween: 10,000 Pet Soul Crystals in one chest

The official Trick or Treat event runs until the scheduled maintenance on November 3 (PST) / November 4 (CET). At the Coin Merchant NPC, 250 Halloween Pumpkin Coins buy one Special Halloween Chest per server, which contains a breastplate skin and 10,000 Pet Soul Crystals. The 14-day attendance gives 620 coins, so this is the first thing to buy if you are working on Genus Insight. The event’s Red Candy also contains Growth Pet Chests. The chest item is removed on December 15 (PST), so open it in time. Full schedule and coin sources are in our Halloween event guide.

Let Aion2 Bot handle the repeat kills

The part that eats the most time is the loop: run to a spot, circle for spawns, move to the next spot when one pet is done. Aion2 Bot’s smart pet farming does that loop. Go to the map you want, press F10 to open “Auto Combat”, tick “Auto-switch pet farming spot” under “Smart Pet Farming”, and click “Start Combat”. It finds the pets on the current map that are not maxed yet, goes to the nearest spot, and switches to the next spot when one is finished. One spot can cover several pets at once, and it does not chase field bosses on its own, so farming is not interrupted.

While it is on, pet farming takes over patrol points and the monster filter, and it takes priority over “Switch to gathering when daily Kina reaches 95%”. It stays on the current map, so when every pet there is maxed, move to another map yourself. Which genus to raise and when to roll stats is still your call.

Any third-party tool carries a risk of account action under the game’s rules. Aion.Onl uses advanced anti-detection technology to keep accounts as safe as it can, but no one can promise zero risk, so read the rules and decide for yourself. New users get a free 3-hour trial card at user.aion.onl. Setup steps are in the setup guide, and support is on Telegram.
