AION 2 Global: No Six-Month Character Purge Planned, NC Says—But the Name-Reset Rule Is Different

Region: AION 2 on Steam/PURPLE Global. A clause mentioning six months without a login has understandably worried players planning a break from the MMO. On October 12, a media report relayed NC’s response: the company says it has never deleted characters under that clause in Korea, Taiwan or Global, and it has no current plans to do so.

That assurance and the written policy are not contradictory. Section 7 still preserves the option of deleting long-inactive character data. The key is understanding its conditions and the notice requirement, rather than treating an eligibility threshold as an announced purge.

What the Global document actually authorizes

The English AION 2 Operation Policy calls this the “Long-Term Inactive Account Policy.” Both conditions must be met:

  1. At least six months have passed since the last AION 2 game login.
  2. The paid-service usage period for AION 2 has ended.

The document says NC may delete the relevant character information; it does not say deletion happens automatically on day 180. More importantly, NC must publish an advance announcement stating the schedule and details before using the measure. A character and name deleted under this particular provision cannot then be restored.

NC’s reported statement says the company has not applied the provision and does not presently intend to. It is not an irreversible promise never to change its mind, and the clause has not been removed from the public policy.

A separate 30-day rule governs character names

Section 10 has different criteria. It permits name resets for accounts that have no payment history and at least 30 days without a game login, or for a character subject to a permanent game suspension. This concerns the reserved name; it is not the same as deleting the character’s inventory, level and quest progression. A name reset would likewise require advance public notice.

Section 11 addresses inactive Legion names after a separate 30-day period. These name-management clauses should not be conflated with Section 7’s six-month data rule.

How should returning players respond?

Watch official community announcements for any implementation date, and distinguish character-data retention from a rare name being released. Also avoid confusing enforcement against bots and illicit trading with long-term inactivity: those actions are based on a different part of the operations policy.

The best-supported conclusion as of October 16 is straightforward: no six-month character-deletion campaign has been announced, while the conditional authority remains in the written rules. An official schedule, should one ever appear, would be material new information.
